MIMB Desktop Model Viewer

Introduction

Once you have imported a model you can use the model viewer, by clicking on the "Model Viewer" button in the import section, to check its contents.

The model viewer window defaults to showing you the contents of the model, that is the packages, the views and the classes. You can then use the check boxes at the bottom to view also the types, or to view only the structure of the model, that is its packages and views.

In this documentation we use the UML nomenclature to designate the model elements.

Fig 1. The model viewer showing both the model structure, types and classes.

In the example above, the model viewer shows both the model structure and the types defined in the model. If you right click on an element of the model, here the "MOVIE" class, the model viewer will pop up a window containing additional information about the object. Finally, the bottom text zone will display at all times the description property of the selected object.

Also by clicking on binocular button (next to the help button), you will open the Search dialog box which is the subject of the next section.

Searching for an element

The search functionality allows you to find which elements in the model match a complex list of criteria.

String/substring match
The top edit box allows you to type the string to search for in the elements. If the string starts with a star, '*', then it will match any text containing the remainder of the string. If it ends with a star then it will match any text starting with the preceding string.
Search
This section allows you to restrict the search on objects of a specific type.
Find in
The two check boxes in this section allow you to specify which object properties must be taken into account when trying to match the string specified above.
Sort by name
Checking this option will sort the result by name instead of returning them in the order in which they were found in the model structure.
Case sensitive
This allows you to specify whether the string matching should be case sensitive or not.

Fig 2. The Search window.

The figure above illustrates the options described above. The user here has just performed a search and the list shows the objects that were found. Double click on one of these object to locate it in the model viewer. To get more information about a specific object click on it in the model viewer. Since the search window is 'modeless' you can freely switch back and forth to the model viewer window.
In the search window, you can also right click on the name of an element of the list, to display the same popup window as in the model viewer.
