Microsoft Repository import and export

The MS Repository's metamodel is called the Open Information Model (OIM). The MS Repository has two kinds of XML based import/export formats:

MDC is no longer active, and Microsoft has renamed its repository initiative and product as Meta Data Services (MDS)
The Microsoft repository is also delivered as part of Microsoft Visual Studio.

Getting started with the Microsoft Repository

When installing/setting-up Visual Studio 6.0, remember to check the Repository box, in the Enterprise Tools option as follows:

The repository software is installed by default in:

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Repostry\
Then start the Repository Browser:
    REPBROWS.EXE
