Model Comparator

Overview

The Model Comparator tool is used to compare two Metadata models.

When you choose to compare two models, MIW displays a series of dialogs that guide you through this process. This process is composed of the following: choosing the models to compare, defining a filter criteria (selecting the attributes and classes to compare), and saving the comparison criteria.

To select the two models to compare (repeat these steps for each model):

• Activate the Repository Manager window,
• select and Copy a Model Format, then
• Activate the comparator and
• Paste the Model Format in the Wizard window by right-clicking in the Model areas and selecting the paste menu entry.
  You can also paste the object into the result tree, by right-clicking to the root of the tree.
  Or you can drag a Model Format from the Repository Manager and drop it in the Model areas of the Comparator Wizard.

Once the comparison is done, the tool displays the result of the comparison and allows

• the generation of a report, or
• the generation of a model mapping for the Model Mapper.

The comparison algorithm is also used in other tools like the Model Integrator and the Model Mapping Migration, but in these cases the graphical interface of the comparator is not used.
