Model Comparator

Interpreting the result

The result of the comparison is the following:

  • the objects that only appear in the reference model (displayed in blue),
  • the objects that only appear in the second model (displayed in green),
  • the objects that are in both models but are different (displayed in red) ,
  • the objects that are identical (displayed in black),
  • the objects that were not compared (displayed in grey).

When the Compare button is pressed the comparison tree is constructed. This tree contains a root, the comparison model, with two leaves that correspond to the two models. The contents of the two models is then displayed with the color schemes that are described above.

Several additional methods are available when you right click on the comparison model.

Fig. 2. Invoking different methods on the comparison

You can perform a new comparison by selecting two new models to compare. The previous comparison will not be saved so you should generate a report before doing the new comparison. The popup menu associated to the root of the tree also allows you to:

  • Paste reference model
    Paste second model
paste two new models on the comparison by selecting a model from the Repository Manager and by copying it at the comparison model node.
  • Reset model pathnames
reset the pathnames for the new comparison,
  • Compare with filer
select an existing filter and restart the comparison for the two models that are currently in the comparison tree (the wizard is not started),
  • Comparator Wizard...
restart the comparison wizard and select different filters for comparing the two models that are currently in the comparison tree,
  • Report...
generate a report on the result of the comparison,
  • Start Mapper...
start the Model Mapper. The model mapping will be initialized based on the result of the comparison
  • Show only differences
display only the differences between the two models in the comparison tree (this uses the current comparison information), and
  • Show not compared objects
view also the objects that have not been compared (these were chosen while generating the filter).

This menu is also in the main menu bar when the Comparator window is the active window.
