Model Integrator

Integrating models

Setting the parameters

The following window allows you to set the source models to integrate, the destination version and the policy to adopt in case of conflicts.

Fig. 1. The Model Integrator main window

You can drag a Model Format from the Repository Manager and drop it on one of the Source models fields. These fields also have a popup menu that can be used to copy/paste a Model Format.

You can drag (or copy) a Version from the Repository Manager and drop (or paste) it on the Version field. If the destination version does not contain a Model Format, the tool will create one. The provided version must not already contain a model or the tool will fail to save the new model into the database.

The source models will be integrated in the order in which they are displayed in the Others list.

You can modify the order of the elements in this list: select an element in the list and right click to display a popup menu. This menu allows you to:

  • Paste a Model Format from the clipboard (if one has been copied to the clipboard). The Model Format will be inserted after the selected element.
  • Move down the selected element in the list (if it is not the last one).
  • Move up the selected element in the list (if it is not the first one).
  • Delete the selected element from the list.

The policy in case of conflicts is to:

  • Keep the reference object and ignore the object from the second model, or
  • Duplicate the object (and its child objects) in the new model.

Use the radio button to choose which policy to adopt for the integration.

This policy can be refined by using the rules from the Advanced options window. Click on the Advanced... button to open this window.

The integrator works in two modes:

  • Interactive: you are prompted to confirm the policy you choosed each time a conflict is detected.
  • Non-interactive: the policy you have choosen is applied to each conflict.

Use the interactive mode check box to set the execution mode.

The buttons allow you to:

  • Start: start the integration of the models,
  • Clear: clear the source and destination fields,
  • Cancel: cancel the operation and close the tool,
  • Help: display this online help.

The Start button is disabled if the reference model or the destination version is not set, or if the source model list is empty.

When you click on the start button:

  • the source models are loaded from the server and displayed in a Model Browser,
  • the reference model is compared to the first other source model and the result of the comparison is used to create an integrated model,
  • then for each remaining source model, the new integrated model is compared to the source model and the result of the comparison is used to update the integrated model,
  • the integrated model is finally saved to the database, and
  • it is displayed in a Model Browser.

The tool uses a Model Integrator window in the Log Manager to display information, during the integration operation, on which objects are integrated in the new model and which ones are not copied.

The Advanced options window

This window is still under construction.
