Assigning access rights to objects

Each object in the MIR repository has an access control list. Most objects in the Repository Manager, allow any user who can log into the system to read the information. However, a user who has creation rights on an object or the administrator may assign rights on objects in the Repository Manager.
Their are four levels of access that can be given to an object:

  • Read - the user can access the object's contents
  • Modify - the user can edit the object
  • Create - the user can create new objects that depend on this object
  • Delete - the user can delete this object and its leaf objects

What this implies is that, for example, a user who has created a product Game, may only allow certain users to create versions or dependent products.

In the case of Format objects (model format, mapping format or file format) the read access right can be granted or denied to other users or groups, with the effect to grant or deny read access to the associated model, model mapping or file format contents. The format object itself is always readable.

Each row of the table represents a user or a group. Groups have a blue label and users have a red label.

For each user/group you can set/unset an access right by clicking in the corresponding cell in the table.

Some check boxes are disabled, which means you cannot change the given right for the given user/group, either because this is the administrator user/group or because you don't have creation right on the object.

If no right is set for a user, the rights of its current group are used.
